VOLUNTEER NEEDS:  We have several farmers providing our food this season.  Each farmer has provided a list of needs. Note: Most of the work involves cleaning harvesting, produce and packing shares for weekly distribution on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. Some are occasional (such as weeding/mulching).
Please complete the questions below to indicate your interests and availability.
PLEASE NOTE: We appreciate your interest in volunteering. The volunteer coordinator will let you know if there is a match for your interests and availability.  A calendar will be created with assignments for the season and you will receive a copy.  On-Farm volunteering is a serious responsibility.  If you cannot come on your assigned day/time because of an urgent situation, you are asked to arrange for an alternate volunteer.  (A list of back-up volunteers will be provided, or you may call another CSA member.) Volunteer Benefits:
A.) Volunteers working a regular schedule on the farm are being offered the following choices.
      Please indicate your preference:
Pickers Perk” – volunteers are offered their choice of extra produce that may be available at the farm. The farmer will let you know what is available that day.
Reduction in Share Cost – Eligibility is based on scheduling and log-in of at least 30 hours/seasonVolunteers must sign the Log-in form at the farm, to document hours.  Value @ $3/hr. = $90, which will be deducted from your share price.  Volunteers unable to fulfill the required hours are expected to reimburse the CSA.

B.) Occasional On-Farm Volunteers
      "Picker’s Perk” at the farm.

Additional Volunteer Positions Open
Please indicate if you are interested in any one of the following positions:

Marketing Committee Coordinator – There are a team of five –Ginny Rosenkrantz, Shawn McEntee, Cathy Brady, Ginger Heatwole and Verna Lankford who are willing to help out. But we need your help as a volunteer to lead the team, come up with solid recruitment strategies and oversee that it is carried out.

Pick up Site Coordinators – This year we are looking for a duo at each site that will over see that each pick up site is staffed by one person every week. We need the sites staffed to assist members in getting their share and freeing up space for our farmers to work the market. If you agree to serve as co-coordinator for your site, it doesn't mean you personally have to staff your site each week. You just need to make sure you get a volunteer to the pick up site and that volunteer knows what to do. Julie has agreed to serve as a co-coordinator for Easton. She needs a partner. We need a team for Asbury and Berlin.

Volunteer Coordinator – We need a volunteer to coordinate all of the on the farm volunteers. This person will work closely with the farmer to gauge his/her needs and will coordinate a training with the growers to make sure all on the farm volunteers understand their responsibilties.

Co-Events Coordinator – We need a volunteer to partner with Stephanie Moore to organize events. We're hoping to do a lot more this year. On the farm visits, pumpkin picking parties etc.

Guidelines for Provident Farms CSA Volunteers
  • Please remember that the farm is the farmer’s home as well.  Be respectful and follow the guidelines set by the individual farmer.  Although the farm is a fascinating place, please do not wander into areas not designated for your work activity.
  • Be careful when you are in the field to ensure that you do not disturb the plantings or soil.  Be alert.
  • While we all enjoy the company of our farmers, please allow the farmer to do his/her work with a minimum of disruption.
  • Your safety is YOUR responsibility.  Be alert and work in a safe manner.  Do not take on more than you are able to handle.  Don’t take chances.  Watch for hazards!
  • Volunteers must maintain good hygiene practices.  Wash your hands frequently.  As we all know from the news, produce may become contaminated by poor hygiene and cause food borne illness.
  • There are specific good practices for post-harvest handling of produce to ensure safety, quality and appearance.   You will receive training on this.
  • Be on time!  Please remember that the farmer is relying on you to be there when expected and to stay for the number of hours you have committed.
  • If you are volunteering on share-packing days, remember- you are part of the planned work crew.  Share distribution may be delayed if you do not show up!
  • Dress in work clothes.  Dress for the weather. Bring natural insect repellent/sunscreen if you will be outside in buggy weather.
  • Bring drinking water, snacks and/or lunch - as appropriate to your assignment.
  • If instructions are not clear, please ask.
  • Volunteers must attend a pre-season on-farm training session at Ted Wycall’s Greenbranch Farm in Salisbury.  You will be notified of the training date.
  • Volunteers must sign the volunteer log at the farm on each volunteer day to record hours.  You are responsible for documenting your hours.
  • If possible, identify another CSA member to serve as an alternate for you.  That person should also attend the pre-season training.
  • If you cannot come on your assigned day/time because of an urgent situation, please contact your alternate, or another CSA member.  We will provide you with a list of people who have agreed to serve as substitutes.  Call the volunteer coordinator and let her know who will be coming in your place, so the coordinator can notify the farmer.
